Tesla has officially launched its highly anticipated autonomous Cybercab robotaxi. This operational milestone comes nearly a couple of years since the automaker originally unveiled the vehicle to the public.

The company seemingly confirmed the initial rollout by making a public statement on the social media platform X. On September 3, 2026, Tesla announced to its followers that "the future has arrived in Austin."

A limited autonomous fleet

This expanded lineup includes Tesla Model Ys, Robovans, and now the newly introduced Cybercabs. Currently, these autonomous Robotaxi rides are available to users across multiple major southern cities.

The specific markets where rides are available include Austin, Dallas, and Houston, alongside Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. However, the deployment of the actual Cybercab vehicle remains highly limited at this stage.

This means the new vehicles make up just a small fraction of the 314 vehicles operating in the area.

No steering wheels or pedals

You cannot just sit in it and drive it as you would any other car. Instead, the vehicle is designed from the ground up to operate as a completely autonomous ride service.

Early footage of the new service is already circulating online as users test the platform. In one video posted to X, an enthusiast named Sawyer Merritt is seen entering the newly launched Cybercab along with his wife to take a driverless ride.

While the general public cannot immediately purchase the Cybercab for their own personal use right now, the automaker is already looking ahead. Tesla has officially opened a Robotaxi interest form for potential customers seeking more information about future availability.
