Spotify is stepping into the chaotic world of concert ticketing with a new weapon for its most dedicated listeners: "Reserved." The feature, launched in the US, gives top fans exclusive early access to purchase concert tickets.
The goal is to sideline ticket bots and reward actual fans instead of scalpers. It works by holding two tickets for eligible users, giving them a chance to buy before the frenzy of a general public sale begins.
The new feature is currently available to Spotify Premium subscribers in the US who are 18 or older and applies only to select artists and tours.
Spotify is tight-lipped about the exact formula for determining who gets an offer, admitting it wants to avoid users trying to game the system with "strategic engagement." The company did confirm its selection process analyzes signals like your history of streams, saves, and shares for a specific artist.
Crucially, your location is also a major factor. Spotify uses this data to ensure offers go to fans who are likely to actually attend a show, not just those with high stream counts. This strategy mirrors other Spotify initiatives that turn your listening history into tangible perks, like the AI-powered Taste Profile that lets you customize the algorithm.
To get these offers, make sure your app is updated, your location is set in the Live Events feed, and notifications for concerts are enabled.
Spotify will notify eligible fans with a "Reserved" offer directly on their home screen, through a push notification, and via email. The offer is hard to miss, also appearing in the search function, on the artist's page, in the Live Events feed, and on the Now Playing screen.
Once notified, you typically have a 24-hour window to make your move. Here’s the process:
Spotify guarantees that two tickets on the tour will be held for you during your purchase window. Still, the company advises acting fast to get the best dates and seats, as waiting until the last minute might mean the most desirable spots are already gone.
Any unclaimed Reserved tickets get passed on to the "next most dedicated eligible fans" in line, making sure the special allocation always goes to active listeners.
