A New Era of Gaming Audio
The Sennheiser consumer audio brand and auto manufacturer Mercedes-Benz have officially announced a brand-new partnership. This collaboration is specifically aimed at capturing the interest of both automotive and audio enthusiasts.
The new venture is debuting at Gamescom, which is recognized as the world’s largest gaming fair. The partnership combines Sennheiser’s established audio expertise with Mercedes-Benz’s long-standing passion for engineering and performance.
Sennheiser has utilized its True Sound philosophy to guide this collaboration. This approach aims to bridge the gap between digital landscapes and physical sensations, demonstrating how total immersion is fundamental for both of these premium brands.
Johann Evanno, category director for Sennheiser Consumer Hearing, highlighted the importance of this immersion. “For gamers, sound is not a passive experience — it’s essential for shaping an immersive world, and the raw emotion that comes from serious gameplay,” Evanno stated.
The HD 620 Mercedes-AMG Edition
Alongside the main partnership announcement, the two companies unveiled the Mercedes-AMG Gaming Edition. Sennheiser has taken its premium HD 620S headphones and turned them into a dedicated gaming headset featuring distinctive Mercedes branding.
The companies undertook this redesign in the hope that the final product will prove irresistible to competitive gamers and streamers. The headset is built specifically for gamers, aiming to enhance how players interact with their virtual environments.
According to Evanno, the headset's acoustic precision is a key selling point. “From redlined engine notes to distant footsteps, the HD 620 Mercedes-AMG Edition can elevate in-game audio cues into a competitive advantage,” he noted.
The partnership emphasizes how high-fidelity sound can elevate both standard gaming and simulated racing experiences. Whether a player is navigating a demanding racetrack or a chaotic virtual arena, the companies claim that success often comes down to the subtle auditory details that others might miss.
Hardware and Acoustic Features
While the visual styling of the headset may be purely Mercedes-Benz AMG, the underlying audio technology is pure Sennheiser. The hardware offers passive noise isolation alongside a luxurious attention to detail in its physical construction.
The headset hardware also prioritizes versatility for both gaming and standard listening. The included HD 500 BAM boom arm mic provides clear speech pickup, ensuring optimal hands-free communication during intense multiplayer sessions.
When players are done communicating, the microphone can be easily detached for audiophile listening sessions.
Christian Ern, a product manager, explained that sound remains vital to the engineering philosophies of both companies. “This partnership emphasizes the standard of excellence we demand when performance matters most,” Ern said. Ern also noted that their presence at Gamescom represents the first step in transcending the thrill and precision of driving a Mercedes-Benz directly to a PC using sound.
Pricing and Availability
Gamescom attendees have the opportunity to experience the new collaboration firsthand. Fans and buyers can test the equipment by visiting the Mercedes-Benz booth at the gaming fair.
Throughout the event, the Sennheiser brand’s high-performance audio solutions will be featured actively on the show floor.
The HD 620 Mercedes-AMG Edition is positioned as a premium product in the gaming peripheral market. The headset will retail for $449, £349, and €399.
