Samsung is placing a massive bet on its new 4:3 "Wide" form factor by cranking Galaxy Z Fold 8 production targets up to 2.8 million units. With the next Galaxy Unpacked event just two days away on July 22, the tech giant clearly expects this model to devour the sales share of its foldable siblings.
The 4:3 Aspect Ratio Becomes the Standard
Apple reportedly plans to use this exact same 4:3 dimension for its own foldable iPhone later this year. Flooding the market with the standard Z Fold 8 is Samsung’s way of capturing the wider-screen crowd before its biggest rival even steps into the ring.
Internal Specs and Market Pressures
When all three foldables debut on July 22, buyers will find the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor powering both the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra. The smaller Z Flip 8 takes a more fragmented approach. It will ship with a Snapdragon chip in select regions while leaning on the Exynos 2600 everywhere else.
Consumers should prepare to pay a premium this generation. The entire 2026 foldable lineup will cost more than previous models, driven largely by an ongoing industry-wide RAM crisis. Committing to 2.8 million units under these conditions is a high-stakes gamble for Samsung, one that banks on buyers swallowing the price hike to secure the new 4:3 display before Apple changes the landscape.
