Samsung Display recently showcased advanced OLED technology at the IMID 2026 International Information Display Conference in Busan, South Korea. The company revealed significant progress in high-refresh-rate laptop panels and new form factors.
High-Performance OLED for Laptops
At the event, Samsung debuted a 16-inch 2.5K OLED panel specifically for laptops, capable of reaching a 300Hz refresh rate. This panel represents a major upgrade over previous 16-inch 2.5K OLED displays, which were limited to lower refresh rates.
The higher 300Hz rate takes better advantage of OLED's fast response times. This development points toward high-performance laptop screens that gamers will likely appreciate. While commercial timelines and exact brightness specifications were not shared at the show, it is expected that laptop manufacturers will adopt the technology once it is further developed.
Enhanced Foldable and Stretchable Displays
Samsung also introduced a 7.6-inch "Wide-View OLED". This new foldable panel addresses a common issue with current foldable displays: the drop in brightness around the curved edges of the hinge crease. On current commercial foldable OLEDs, side viewing of curved sections can result in brightness dropping to about 40% compared to a direct flat view.
To fix this, Samsung redesigned the organic light-emitting layer materials and the structure of the OLED stack. The panel now maintains bright and even image consistency, even when looking straight at the curved sections. Samsung noted that this same OLED stack could also be applied to rollable OLEDs.
Additionally, the company highlighted a 20-inch wide stretchable display, calling it the world's largest of its kind. Samsung created this by splicing two stretchable OLED panels together using advanced technology. The join between the two panels is so minimal that it appears as one continuous screen. These stretchable panels could eventually be used in specialized applications like cars or signage.
