Google Vids is ditching complex timelines for plain English. The video creation tool just received a major upgrade, integrating the company's Gemini Omni AI to enable conversational editing, personal AI avatars, and highly expressive voice controls.

Edit Video Just by Talking to an AI

The biggest change in Vids is the integration of Gemini Omni, the advanced video generation model Google first showed off at I/O 2026. This update lets users create and edit video with simple, natural language commands.

Instead of hunting through menus, you can now instruct the AI conversationally. Google’s announcement shows how you can start from scratch with text and images or tell Gemini to modify an existing video by changing the background, improving the lighting, or adding specific visual effects.

Create a Digital You with AI Avatars

The platform now lets you create a personal AI avatar from a single selfie and a short voice sample. Your digital twin can then narrate any script, allowing you to appear in a video without recording new footage for every take.

Google has implemented safety measures for this feature. Personal avatars are restricted to the account holder’s own likeness and are only available to users over 18 in supported regions.

To prevent misuse, every video clip generated with AI will contain an invisible SynthID watermark to verify its origin.

Availability

Google is rolling these features out broadly across its Workspace tiers and to personal accounts.

The new voice-steering tools are now live for Google Workspace Business and Enterprise editions, Education Plus, and nonprofit organizations. They are available in both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains.

Personal Google accounts, including subscribers to Google AI Pro and Ultra, also have access. The features are enabled by default, so administrators don't need to take any action.
