Google Keep, the versatile note-taking application available on both Android and iOS, is enhancing its Android version with a new feature designed to streamline the note creation process. This update introduces a toggle switch that allows users to set text notes as the default creation option, providing a quicker and more direct way to jot down thoughts and ideas. The new feature centers around a 'Create text notes by default' toggle. When enabled, tapping the plus button within the app will immediately open a blank text note, ready for typing. This eliminates extra steps for users who primarily use Google Keep for text-based notes. By default, this toggle is disabled, requiring users to manually enable it within the app's settings. To activate the 'Create text notes by default' toggle, users need to open the Google Keep app and access the settings menu. This is done by tapping the Hamburger icon, typically located on the left side of the search bar at the top of the screen. Within the settings, under the 'Note creation' heading, the toggle can be found and switched on. Once enabled, the plus sign in the lower right corner of the screen will instantly generate a new text note template. Beyond simple text notes, Google Keep also offers AI-powered list creation. By tapping a blue prompt, users can generate shopping lists or other types of lists. Inputting a description, such as 'Spring cleaning checklist for a 2 bedroom apartment,' into the field above the keyboard and tapping 'Create' will prompt the app to use AI to generate a relevant list. Furthermore, long-pressing the plus button reveals additional list creation options. The 'Create text notes by default' toggle has been spotted in version 5.25.102.01.90 of the Google Keep app for Android. However, the rollout appears to be gradual, with some users not yet receiving the update. Even devices running the latest Android beta may not immediately have access to the new feature, indicating a phased release strategy.
