Google is rolling out three new travel features to its AI Mode in Search. These tools allow users to track airfare, check reward pricing, and complete hotel bookings directly within the chat interface. The updates are designed to keep users within Google's ecosystem by further blurring the line between searching for a trip and actually booking it.
Conversational Price Tracking
Google is bringing the functionality of its existing Google Flights price-tracking tool directly into AI Mode. Travelers can describe their ideal travel dates and destinations to receive flight options from over 300 partner airlines and travel websites.
Users can now bypass traditional search filters and simply ask the chatbot things like, "Track these flight prices for me". After confirming the request, Google will monitor the fares and send an email alert when prices change for the planned destination.
Searching with Points and Miles
Google is integrating loyalty currencies directly into the search tool, allowing travelers to view costs in points or miles instead of cash. Users can give the chatbot their dates and destination to check how much a flight or hotel will cost using their rewards.
Travelers can input highly specific prompts, such as: "I want to travel from Atlanta to Miami using my AA miles. Help me find some options for nonstop flights departing Oct 9 and returning on Oct 12". AI Mode then displays the award rates using current data supplied directly by participating loyalty programs.
At launch, supported programs include Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Choice Hotels International, Hilton, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Google plans to add support for Accor, Flying Blue, Hyatt, LATAM Airlines, and the Lufthansa Group soon.
Direct Booking via Google Pay
Google is introducing the ability to finalize hotel reservations without navigating away from the search page. Users can input preferences—such as requesting a New Orleans hotel near a jazz club on specific dates for roughly $200 a night.
The AI will then display a visual list of options alongside prices and reviews from other travelers. Travelers can complete their reservation entirely through AI Mode using Google Pay.
This booking feature will roll out in the coming weeks specifically for US users in English. It will work with a string of partner sites, including Expedia, Marriott International, and Priceline. For flights, users can still build their itineraries in AI Mode and purchase tickets directly through an airline's website or an alternative booking platform.
Canvas and Advanced Planning
To further support trip organization, Google's Canvas in AI Mode allows users to build travel plans that are customized for their specific needs. When users detail the type of trip they are planning, they have the option to Create Canvas to surface real-time data for flights and hotels.
This interface also pulls in photos and reviews from Google Maps, alongside relevant information from sites across the web. Travel planning with Canvas is currently available on desktop in the US for users who opt into the AI Mode experiment in Labs.
