Searching for the right Android app in a sea of millions just got easier. Google is now letting its Gemini AI handle the heavy lifting by integrating the Play Store directly into the chatbot.
This new feature lets you discover, install, and even make in-app purchases without ever leaving your conversation with Gemini. It’s Google’s answer to the endless scrolling and analysis paralysis that often plagues the Play Store.
Conversational App Discovery
The goal is to stop you from manually searching and scrolling. Instead, you can now simply ask Gemini for app recommendations based on what you need.
For instance, a user could ask, “Find a productivity app to help me with meal planning.” Gemini analyzes the request and shows relevant app suggestions right in the chat. Tapping an app takes you to its Play Store page to finish the installation.
The feature goes beyond just finding apps; it also handles purchases. You can use commands like, “Show me in-app purchases for [App Name]” or “Buy a Google Play gift card.”
How to Get Started
Before you can use the new tool, Google has a few requirements.
The feature is available to users who are:
- 18 years of age or older
- Using an Android phone with the Google Play Store app installed
- Signed into Gemini with a personal Google Account
- Have the “Keep Activity” setting enabled within their Gemini settings
Connecting the two is simple. Open the Gemini app and ask it to find an app. If it’s not yet connected, an on-screen prompt will walk you through the one-time setup.
