Starting with the M5 Max version, users get a robust 18-core CPU paired with up to a 40-core GPU. Memory configurations are equally impressive, supporting up to 128GB of unified RAM while delivering 614GB/s of bandwidth.
Graphics rendering sees a major boost thanks to built-in Neural Accelerators, which offer up to 50 percent faster performance than the previous generation. Video editors will especially appreciate this architectural leap, as it provides up to 3x faster Magic Mask performance in DaVinci Resolve Studio compared to the older M4 Max.
M5 Ultra Power
For truly extreme workloads, the M5 Ultra model scales up to a massive 36-core CPU alongside an 80-core GPU. By supporting up to 512GB of unified memory and a staggering 1.2TB/s of memory bandwidth, this tier allows users to run massive models entirely on the device.
In terms of raw processing capability, the M5 Ultra delivers up to 4.3x the peak AI compute performance of the M3 Ultra. Beyond machine learning, it empowers professionals to simultaneously play up to 33 streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at a smooth 30 fps.
Pro Connectivity and Storage
On the networking front, the latest Mac Studio introduces Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for the very first time. Physical connections also see a substantial upgrade with the inclusion of Thunderbolt 5 ports, delivering up to 120Gb/s of bandwidth to accommodate high-performance peripherals.
Unlocking entirely new capabilities, Thunderbolt 5 allows users to cluster multiple Mac Studio systems together to seamlessly share AI compute workloads. When scaling operations, a cluster of four systems delivers up to 3x faster AI inference than relying on a single machine.
Rounding out the upgrades, the internal storage architecture is now built on PCIe Gen 6 technology. This next-generation foundation effectively offers up to twice as fast read and write speeds.
