MacBook Pro Redesign and M-Series Roadmap

The upcoming 14-inch entry-level MacBook Pro is expected to adopt a design that mirrors the touch screen models Apple also has in development, according to the report.

Previous reports suggest these touch screen laptops, anticipated between late 2026 and early 2027, will integrate a Dynamic Island-style pill at the top of the display.

This long-term redesign will follow a more immediate, iterative update. Apple has reportedly finished a minor refresh for the base MacBook Pro that keeps the current design but upgrades the processor, with that model scheduled to launch later this year. The base MacBook Pro was last updated with an M5 chip in October 2025.

Apple's processor strategy also seems to be hitting a new gear. While the company is working on an M6 processor, it will reportedly shift quickly to the M7 chip line in 2027, complete with new Pro and Max variants. This breakneck pace suggests Apple is aiming to create an even wider performance gap against emerging PC competition from Qualcomm and others.

iPad Pro Gets an Internal Refresh

Alongside the Mac news, Apple is reportedly testing four new iPad Pro models for a spring 2027 launch. The updates are said to focus on "internal improvements" rather than any significant external changes.

The new models will stick with the current 11-inch and 13-inch screen sizes, placing the focus squarely on performance gains from a next-generation Apple silicon chip. Following the M5 update in October 2025, a spring 2027 launch keeps the iPad Pro on a roughly 18-month refresh cycle. The update seems focused on solidifying the iPad Pro's position for professional workflows that demand maximum power.
