For the nation’s 200 million Prime members, the upgrade is free—a move designed to lock users into the ecosystem before they can look toward OpenAI or Google. If you tell Alexa you're allergic to peanuts while asking for a cookie recipe on Tuesday, it won't suggest PB&Js on Friday. It manages complex, multi-step tasks like drafting follow-up emails from your last meeting or coordinating a Whole Foods delivery based on your Tuesday night "taco tradition." This memory-centric framework allows the assistant to handle open-ended conversations that would have stumped the 2014 version of the hardware. However, this level of intimacy is exactly what is raising eyebrows.
