This summer, Apple is moving forward with plans to roll out paid advertisements within Apple Maps for users across the United States and Canada. Bloomberg first reported on Apple’s plans last October, and the company officially announced the advertising update on March 24, 2026. Unveiled as a keyword-bid auction system, the format operates on a privacy-first, contextual model.
Search and Suggested Places Placements
Appearing at the top of Apple Maps search results, these fresh ad slots will also populate a newly introduced "Suggested Places" section. This curated area is designed to highlight relevant businesses based on user activity and trends. For context regarding the platform's reach, Apple Maps currently commands an estimated 25% share of the United States navigation market.
Much like the existing App Store Search Ads model, whoever bids the highest secures the top spot for a specific search query. While the iOS 26.5 beta versions have already laid the underlying infrastructure, live advertisements remain hidden from users for now. However, the rollout is imminent, as Apple previously confirmed the placements would go live this summer.
Business Onboarding and Privacy Controls
Participating businesses have the flexibility to set their own budget minimums. As an added incentive, an introductory promotion grants advertisers a 15% credit toward future ad spending, which caps at $1,000 per month for the first year.
To run these automated ads, organizations must first claim their physical business location on Maps. Once the ad service is officially available, businesses will be able to access a fully automated ad creation experience in just a few simple steps.
Broader Apple Business Expansion
Marking the company's most substantial new advertising surface since shifting from Search Ads to Apple Ads in April 2025, this Maps integration is a major strategic push. That earlier rebrand signaled Apple's clear intent to expand its ad inventory well beyond the App Store. Looking at current projections, EMARKETER estimates the Apple Ads division will generate approximately $8.5 billion this year, representing more than a quarter of the company’s total revenue.
Stepping back, this advertising rollout acts as just one piece of the broader Apple Business platform, which launched on Tuesday, April 14, across more than 200 countries and regions. According to Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Enterprise and Education Marketing, the platform represents "a significant leap forward in our decades-long commitment to helping companies of all sizes".
Aimed at enterprise users, this expansive service offers advertising opportunities across Maps, Mail, Wallet, and Siri. The suite combines built-in mobile device management, business email, and calendar tools with custom domain support. It also introduces new Blueprints to easily set up employee devices with preconfigured settings, alongside options to purchase upgraded iCloud storage and AppleCare+ for Business.
